Walking the South West Coast Path

If you are looking for a great destination where you can do plenty of walking during your break, Newquay could be the perfect place.

North Cornwall in particular offers a number of excellent opportunities for you to enjoy a walk, with no shortage of wild cliffs and rugged shores that are perfect for exploring.

From your base you’ll be perfectly-positioned to enjoy the great range of walking paths and trails that make this coastal region so appealing.

One trek well worth considering is the incredible South West Coast Path, which runs along the length of the north Cornish coast through Padstow and all the way to Newquay. The moderate terrain will see you pass by sleepy Cornish farms, dramatic cliffs and, of course, the famous coastal views that have made this area so popular.

It is important to know that some areas of the South West Coast Path feature unfenced clifftops, slopes and some steep steps, so it is a wise idea to walk with care – and keep your eye out for wet weather! On a fine day, you may wish to stop and explore Redcliff Castle or take in the views of Trevose Head and the lighthouse from Porth Mear. Here, you’ll find a lovely sheltered cove – offering a welcome contrast from the exposed cliffs – and a pretty beach, although you may need to exercise caution near the water as swimming is not safe here.
