BSUPA National Championships Newquay – 13/14 Oct 2012

October sees the two-day stand up paddle surfing tournament in which British champions will be crowned. The British Stand-Up Paddlesurf Association (BSUPA) competition will take place on 13 and 14 October where spectators can witness the paddle surfers compete in a five mile long-distance race and a performance surfing round, where they will have the chance to show off the skills for the judges and waiting crowd. http://www.bsupa.org.uk

New flights from Newquay airport unveiled

Passengers from Cornwall will be able to fly direct from Newquay to two additional UK destinations this summer. Newquay airport is launching weekly flights to Newcastle and Belfast from May. The Exeter-based airline, Flybe, said the routes would operate on Saturdays from 5 May. In December the Cornish airport announced weekly flights from Newquay to Norwich would also be starting in May. Alex Hartley and 18 volunteers excavated about six tonnes of material from an island exposed by a glacier on the Svalbard peninsula in Norway. More than 1,000 new jobs could be on the way for Cornwall, the government has said. Newquay Airport has been named by the government as an enterprise zone for new businesses. Ministers said companies that choose to develop at Newquay airport will be able to share tax breaks worth nearly £2.5m.
